Stay Longer
All roads lead to Camperdown… so many great reasons to explore our beautiful lakes and volcanic plains.
Why stay in Camperdown?
We are inland from the Great Ocean Road, situated on a quiet side street in Camperdown whose main road is the Princes Highway. The Camperdown Mill is centrally located for a region that reaches Port Campbell, Warrnambool, Timboon, Terang, Mortlake, Colac within an hour, and within 1.5 hours is Port Fairy, Tower Hill, Koroit and Ballarat.
If you are diverting inland from the famous coastal drive, you will head directly north from the heart of the Great Ocean road via Cobden, leading straight into Camperdown. Camperdown is also accessible via a direct 2.5 hr V/line train ride from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station- where you can leave city traffic behind and explore strictly via foot or bike (for adventure cyclists).
Camperdown offers a variety of versatile attractions and community spaces that perfectly cater to all age groups…
Whether you are seeking outdoor recreation, great cycling trails, hiking trails, natural panoramic views that are stunning locations for sunrise, sunset and stars… or local heritage, our region provides a great mix of activities for everyone.
On the edge of town we have Lake Bullen Merri, which has foreshore access, there is Lake Gnotuk alongside and 10 kilometres away is Lake Purrumbete, which has Lake Edge Cafe.
If you head up to the Botanic Gardens and look out over the lakes from the back car park you will discover that Lake Bullen Merri is in the shape of a Shamrock ☘️ drive up with a takeaway and enjoy the view. The botanic gardens, in any season, is a great place for a picnic too. with the canopy of trees and sheltered spaces. There is also a bbq point there.

On Saturdays a gem of a place to visit is DRAKES FRESH PRODUCE you can walk the gardens, have coffee, cake, food and also purchase freshly baked bread, tarts, quiches… whatever has been cooked using their fresh produce. You might find that you takeaway enough for dinner as well. Theresa and the family also sometimes have Saturday night events.

Search for your next book… find a unique bargain, pick up a jigsaw puzzle or some old fashioned games for the kids (young and old). These well cared for houses of treasure are well worth a rummage.
